N A Mancik; Hamburg, NY

John Mancik (1905-1960), Illinois

Joseph Mancik (1921-1983), New York

Louis Mancik (1885-1970), California

I sent for copies of the U.S. Social Security Card applications for several of these deceased Mancik's. They list birthplace and both parents' names. Here's a summary:

The New York Mancik brothers' father was also named Joseph. It's a good bet he was also an immigrant. He was having children in Lackawanna, New York the same time as my grandfather Joseph was having children in Detroit, Michigan. Two immigrants named Joseph Mancik, about the same age; that will add some confusion trying to make connections for us in Slovakia!

The Illinois John Mancik was born in "Czechoslovakia". His father was also "John". I wonder if his father could be the "Jan", age 29, that arrived in Galveston in 1910?

Louis Mancik was born in Slavcov. I think that is the Moravian town near Brno in what is now the Czech Republic. (His application actually says Slavcov, Austria.) His father was named "Martin". He didn't apply for a social security card until 1966 when he was 80 years old.
